Learning and development initiative includes courses on AI, cloud and digital transformation
Irish STEM students have been invited to apply to Huawei’s international learning and development program, Seeds for the Future.
Scheduled for September 2021, the program offers third-level students studying at Irish universities the opportunity to participate in an exclusive online event to develop their understanding of the ICT industry while learning about Chinese culture.
The program has been available to STEM students in Ireland since 2015, with over 90 students benefiting from this unique learning and cultural experience offered by one of the world’s leading ICT companies.
Seeds for the Future has adapted to the global trend of virtual education, with the 2021 edition being broadcast online again, giving more STEM students and those interested in technology at Irish universities the opportunity to participate.
Selected students will have the opportunity to take virtual tours of Huawei campuses, the companies’ flagship store in central Shenzhen, as well as Chinese cultural experiences such as visits to famous cities, learning Mandarin, calligraphy. and an overview of modern Chinese enterprises. They will also study different levels of basic and advanced courses exploring the latest developments in smart cities, AI, cloud computing, 5G and the Internet of Things. Other course options include guest lectures on digital transformation, sustainable technology, and strategic leadership given by senior Huawei engineers or guest speakers from industry thought leaders.
Tony Yangxu, CEO of Huawei Ireland, said that the goal of the 2021 Seeds for the Future program is to nurture STEM talent in Ireland: “The program aims to equip STEM students with the skills and mindset to be competitive in the workplaces of the future. Tech companies have a real role to play in encouraging students to pursue careers in STEM, and Huawei is proud to help those taking STEM courses be as well equipped as possible to enter the workforce.
“With our experience of bringing the program online last year for the first time, it was encouraging to see the discussion between Irish Seeds students and students from other countries. We hope this year’s virtual event inspires brighter ideas in students and gives them a better understanding of the world and how a global tech company works.
