Last month, Huawei unveiled the MateBook D 16 and MateBook 16 powered by 12th generation Intel processors. It was just for China, but Huawei plans to sell these two in Europe as well.
Both laptops were showcased at an event in Istanbul, Turkey. They were joined by the foldable flagship Huawei Mate Xs 2, the newly announced Huawei nova Y90 phone and the Y70 (which was previously unveiled). The 10.3-inch e-ink tablet, the Huawei MatePad Paper, was also demoed (if that sounds interesting, check out our review).
Back to laptops. The pair of 16-inch Windows 11 machines will soon be available in Europe, but we’re still waiting for Huawei to release more concrete pricing information and launch details.
The Huawei MateBook D 16 has an aluminum body that measures 18.4 mm thick and weighs 1.7 kg (3.75 lbs), which isn’t much for a 16-inch laptop. It has a 16:10 IPS LCD resolution (1920 x 1200px, 142ppi) and promises impressive image quality with 100% sRGB coverage, 1200:1 contrast ratio and 300 nits brightness.
The Huawei MateBook D 16 arrives in Europe
There are two processor choices: the Intel Core i5-12450H or the Core i7-12700H. The former has UHD graphics (48 EU, 1.2 GHz), the latter has the more capable Iris Xe graphics (96 EU, 1.4 GHz). There is no option for dedicated graphics.
You can configure the laptop with 8 or 16 GB of RAM, storage is fixed at 512 GB (SSD NVMe). The laptop has a 60 Wh battery and two USB-C ports that can be used for charging (one also does DisplayPort). Additionally, there’s a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, USB 2.0, HDMI port, and 3.5mm combo headphone plus mic jack. The MateBook D 16 comes with the necessary 65W power adapter and USB cable.
Note: There is an AMD version of the MateBook D 16 (Ryzen 4600H), but today’s was even focused on the Intel model.
The Huawei MateBook 16s is another 16-inch laptop, although this one’s screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio (2520 x 1680 pixel resolution). It’s still an IPS LCD with 100% sRGB coverage, best of all it has higher contrast at (1500:1) and factory calibration with an average deltaE of less than 1 (that’s i.e. as good as possible).
This one is also powered by 12th generation Intel H-series processors, which is a TDP of 40W. You can also have it with dual-channel RAM and an NVMe SSD.
