According to the latest market data, Huawei is experiencing a significant resurgence in the Chinese smartphone market. After facing challenges due to the US sanctions regime in 2020, the launch of the Huawei Mate 60 series and Huawei Mate took the brand to the top.
Recent market statistics indicate that Huawei’s market share increased from 10.3% to 17% between the 33rd and 36th weeks of 2023. This surge allowed Huawei to overtake Xiaomi, which was the leading brand in China with 18.4% market share, now reduced to 14%. Huawei’s former sub-brand, Honor, also saw a slight decrease in market share, from 17.7% to 17.2%. Other major players in the Chinese smartphone market include OPPO, Vivo and Apple.
The success of the Huawei Mate 60 series and Huawei Mate has led to market redistribution. Huawei’s strong performance is expected to continue throughout the year, positioning the brand as the market leader in China in the fourth quarter. This achievement will likely result in a shift in the top five brands, potentially displacing Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo or Honor from their current positions. Apple, on the other hand, continues to have relatively low market share and limited growth in China.
Aside from market share gains, Huawei was also recognized for the durability of its flagship device, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro. In a recent durability test, the device withstood being dropped on a concrete floor and being run over a car. Using Huawei Kunlun Glass 2 for protection has proven to be more durable than the Corning Gorilla Glass in the Samsung S23 Ultra.
Overall, Huawei’s resurgence in the Chinese smartphone market is evident through its growing market share and positive reception to its flagship devices. As the brand continues to progress, it is poised to reclaim its position as a dominant player in the Chinese market.
