Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Huawei today launched the world’s first multi-layered MRP ransomware protection solution based on networked storage collaboration at the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference (GISEC) 2023.
In ransomware attacks, hackers encrypt user data, restrict access to assets, and force victims to pay a ransom to unlock them. Ransomware attacks can not only cause service disruption, but also lead to massive damage to the reputation of victims.
All ransomware attacks share some key characteristics that are important from a service perspective:
- Their software is extremely diverse. The number of ransomware variants increased by 98% between the 2nd half of 2021 and the 1st half of 2022, making it very difficult to quickly and effectively detect and respond to secret and new attacks.
- Ransomware spreads quickly, leaving administrators little time to react once an attack has begun. Microsoft has discovered that ransomware can penetrate a system to gain permissions in just 45 minutes.
- Businesses feel the impact of ransomware attacks more intensely than other types of users, as it normally takes a long time to restore services after an attack and data often cannot be restored at all. IDC white paper shows average service downtime caused by ransomware attacks was 5 days in 2022, and more than 46% of organizations that paid ransom were still unable to restore their data after the attack.
This leaves businesses in dire need of effective end-to-end protection, as traditional ransomware protection solutions simply cannot compete with these challenges.
Huawei’s innovative Multi-Layer Ransomware Protection (MRP) solution instead leans toward network storage collaboration-based data protection capabilities. Its three main features (network storage detection, network storage response and network storage recovery) are able to prevent encryption and data theft better than competing solutions.
Launch of the MRP solution
Karanveer Padghane, Chief Architect of Enterprise BG, Huawei Middle East and Central Asia launched the solution by explaining that the new multi-layered ransomware protection (MRP) technology based on network-storage collaboration strengthens protection and minimizes the impact of ransomware attacks on all businesses, even offering zero downtime” .
