Chinese tech company Huawei has released its main headphones, the FreeBuds Pro, to complement its existing FreeBuds line. Huawei has stepped up its game to make real improvements in design, sound, active noise cancellation and connectivity.
Huawei is well known for its technology in many areas, from mobile phones to corporate routers. This includes its in-ear headphones, the FreeBuds, which have now been extended with the high-end FreeBuds Pro. Among other enhancements, the FreeBuds Pro includes intelligent dynamic active noise cancellation for the ultimate in-ear experience for music, audiobooks, voice calls, and more.
However, before we get to the sound, it’s important to note the effort and care that Huawei has put into making these Pro headphones. The design has been reshaped to create a new geometric aesthetic, fitting comfortably over your ear while still being beautiful and sturdy. The rods are small enough to be light and feel natural, but even thicker and sturdy enough, they offer touch-sensitive controls to give you full control over your audio with a single tap or tap. For example, swipe your finger up or down to change the volume, or long press your headphones to enter discovery mode to hear your surroundings.
A USB-C charging case is included, which weighs just 60g and fits nicely in your pocket or bags, charging the headphones while protecting them from damage. The ear cups and case are available in color choices: ceramic white, carbon black, or frost silver, with the former two being glossy and the latter being matte.
Huawei’s design job isn’t just about looking good; The ear tips are complemented by a curved in-ear holder on the main body of the bud, relieving the in-ear pressure and airflow to maximize comfort over a long period of time. This contrasts with other ear cups where pressure is only exerted on the tips, and which can leave you feeling choked or pinched over time.
The box includes three different sized eartips to help you find the right one for your body, and you can download the free Huawei AI Life companion app for iOS and Android to test the fit of the eartip, ensuring an audio experience. immersive.
They look great, but what we really want to know is how they sound. Here, the FreeBuds Pro are distinguished by professional specifications. Each earphone includes an 11m ultra-magnetic dynamic driver, producing breathtaking sound with rich bass and natural sounds. An internal microphone adjusts the dynamic equalizer to ensure excellent balance and ideal frequency, whether you are walking alongside traffic, sitting in your quiet home, or sitting in a noisy workplace.
Even with these features, it’s the noise cancellation that Huawei touts as particularly the FreeBuds Pro outside of the rest of the FreeBuds line. Here, the FreeBuds Pro brings the world’s first intelligent active dynamic noise cancellation, changing the noise cancellation to suit your surroundings. The options range from comfortable, general, and ultra loud – and while you can manually set noise canceling mode through the AI Life app, you can also leave the headphones in automatic mode to do the work for you.
Noise cancellation is powered by a three microphone system and bone voice sensors, along with a custom Huawei algorithm. Huawei’s lab test results show up to 40dB of noise cancellation depth, providing greater coverage than competing products. This includes active wind cancellation, which is more useful on the go.
In addition to providing great sound, FreeBuds Pro actively detect voices from other ambient noise. It enhances your voice to help you catch every word on conference calls and broadcasts. For business users – or for anyone, in fact, who needs to talk with others – this is great. I have tried other headsets and headphones in the past that played music well but made lecturing difficult. Either the other part looked like it was far away, or underwater, or sometimes like a Dalek. By improving the voice, Huawei really demonstrates the depth of thought put into the FreeBuds Pro to make it a truly professional device. Once you hear the Enhanced Voice, it sounds so sensitive and helpful that you wonder why it’s actually so rare. It’s a great addition that makes the FreeBuds Pro a great choice in my opinion.
Both headphones include dual Bluetooth antennas, making the FreeBuds Pro the world’s first dual-antenna wireless headphones.
The headphones can be paired with two devices simultaneously, which means you can listen to music from the computer while taking calls from your phone without interruption or delay.
Overall battery life is calculated by Huawei as up to seven hours of music playback with noise cancellation turned off, and up to 30 hours when using the charging case. This comes down to 4.5 and 20 hours with noise cancellation enabled. For voice calls, the numbers are four hours and 18 hours with noise cancellation turned off and 3.5 hours and 16 hours with noise cancellation turned on. Even if you end up on 3.5 hour phone calls during the day, you still have enough charge to last the day.
The headphones charge in the case, which supports fast charging. In 10 minutes, it can be charged up to 30% when plugged in via USB-C, or up to 18% when using a wireless charger. Within 30 minutes that goes to 55% and 32% respectively.
The FreeBuds Pro is certified by the technical services of SGS-CSTC standards for the use of ecological and sustainable materials. They use a Kirin A1 processor, support Bluetooth 5.2, are water and dust resistant up to IPX4, and have a 55mAh battery per earphone and 580mAh in the case.
The Huawei FreeBuds Pro has a suggested retail price of $ 329, but is currently on sale for $ 259 and works equally well with Android and iOS.
