Huawei France and Schnell team up to bring Li-Fi to hospitals – Telecompaper

Huawei France has signed a framework agreement with Schnell, a spin-off of the German Fraunhofer institute specializing in Li-Fi connectivity. This alternative to Wi-Fi is capable of providing high speed broadband and is carving out a market niche in environments where the use of Wi-Fi is not recommended or prohibited. Huawei and Schnell will combine their respective areas of expertise to introduce a new offer targeting the healthcare sector, and in particular hospitals.

Other Li-Fi experts are already present on this market segment in France. For example, Lucibel deployed its “LiFi by Lucibel” solution in a clinic near Paris in 2017. The use of Wi-Fi presents a risk of interference with medical equipment in operating theaters, making hospitals a good perspective for Li-Fi connectivity. Schnell told reporters that global revenues from Li-Fi are expected to reach € 93 billion by 2026.
