If there is one thing that jumps out at Tesla China, it’s the fact that its legal team is not holding back. Whether it is a media outlet or a social media influencer, anyone or anything disseminating inaccuracies and false information about Tesla would be questioned. It turned out to be a hard lesson for former Huawei Intelligent Drive chief Su Qing as he was fired from his post because of his previous comments about Tesla and its autopilot system.
As stated in a report from a local automotive outlet Automatic heart, Huawei’s Intelligent Drive unit underwent some personnel changes, which led to Su Qing no longer holding an active position in the company. He would just be on a reserve team for training and posting. Huawei eventually released a statement about Su Qing’s job adjustments, saying it was due to his previous comments on Tesla.
“Our company’s smart car solution, BU Su Qing, made inappropriate remarks against Tesla when he attended an external event and talked about the technology and safety of autonomous driving. Su Qing made a thorough review of her inappropriate personal remarks, but due to her remarks, our company decided to remove Su Qing’s post as Head of Intelligent Driving Products Department of BU Intelligent Vehicle Solutions, ”said said Huawei.
So, what exactly were the comments of the former head of Huawei Intelligent Drive? At the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence, he attended a panel discussion on emerging driving technologies and he decided to call Tesla’s electric cars as “killer” machines. He also suggested that any death associated with the company’s autopilot system amounted to a “kill”.
The former Huawei chief’s comments received strong responses from Chinese social media, with many users saying he crossed the line. The comments also caught the attention of Tesla China, whose legal team quickly got to work. Su Qing’s dismissal came after Huawei received a letter of complaint from Tesla China’s legal team.
Social etiquette aside, the actions of the former Huawei executive are sadly quite common among aggressive Tesla skeptics. In the United States alone, Tesla is receiving wave after wave of false reports and serious allegations from groups like TSLAQ, avid short sellers who have invested a lot of time and effort in their crusade against the electric vehicle maker.
Same executives of competing automakers tend to join the anti-Tesla fray from time to time. Unlike Tesla China, however, Tesla’s legal team in the United States is much smaller. It is debatable whether this is a good idea or not, but it cannot be denied that Tesla China’s active legal efforts are paying off.
