Cairo – Huawei Technologies, a leading global provider of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, celebrated the graduation of students participating in the 8th edition of its pioneering training program “Seeds for the Future”. The training program is aimed at students in the fields of information and communication technologies, in cooperation with the partners for success: the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies and the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, as part of the company’s support for the digital transformation strategy and youth empowerment, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
For eight consecutive days, Huawei Egypt collaborated with government institutions in the ICT sector, bringing together a group of students participating in the Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI), The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), affiliated with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), as well as a group of high-level students from Egyptian universities participating in the Huawei Global ICT Competition.
Huawei provided young participants with practical training materials such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things and cybersecurity. The program also included leadership and self-development courses to enable students to meet challenges by promoting teamwork, knowledge exchange and cross-cultural communication, including Chinese culture and arts. These efforts support Huawei Egypt’s strategy to empower young people by developing their skills, building their digital capabilities, qualifying them for labor market demands, and fostering cultural innovation and future thinking among young people.
This year’s edition of the program saw the Tech4Good initiative for the second consecutive year. The competitive program asks students to identify a social challenge and propose a technical solution based on the ICT skills they acquire throughout the program. This competition is also designed to cultivate leadership and teamwork through group training and competition.
The winning team came up with a smart application that aims to improve the quality of life of patients with Alzheimer’s disease; facilitate their daily activities and ensure their personal safety. Using the latest technologies such as IoT, AI and Cloud Computing, the app sounds a clear warning to patient carers to avoid potential disasters.
The closing ceremony of the training program saw the prominent participation of Dr. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA); Mr. Zhang Chaoyang, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt; Mr. Jim Liu, CEO of Huawei Egypt; Dr. Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister of Technology Talent Development, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; Dr Hisham Farouk, Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Mr. MaBen, Board Member, General Manager of Public Affairs and Communications Department at Huawei Egypt.
In his speech, Dr. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), congratulated the graduates and winners of the Tech4Good competition, emphasizing ITIDA’s willingness to invest in young talents who are Egypt’s greatest asset, saying, “Huawei’s capacity building ecosystem is part of ITIDA’s efforts to empower young people and provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to qualify them for the global ICT job market.As Egypt has 60,000 graduates per year, including 60,000 graduates specializing in ICT fields, our goal is to promote entrepreneurship, startup culture and stimulate innovation. We also look forward to continuing our cooperation with the private sector, including Huawei, to reach as many young people as possible across Egypt.
Praising Egyptian-Chinese relations and Huawei’s efforts to empower Egyptian youth, Mr. Zhang Chaoyang, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Chinese Embassy, said, “The 8th edition of Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program coincides with the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Egyptian-Chinese relationship. With the increase of political mutual trust between China and Egypt; bilateral cooperation will continue to flourish in the field of cultural and human communication to advance towards building a better society.
“Led by Huawei, Chinese companies operating in the Egyptian market are contributing to the country’s sustainable development, assuming their social responsibilities to Egyptian society. Huawei provides Egyptian students with valuable opportunities to learn the latest ICT technologies, as well as enrich cultural and knowledge aspects to stimulate creativity and innovation. These efforts help support Egypt’s digital vision and strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing,” Chaoyang added.

Dr. Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister of Technology Talent Development, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, said. “Today we celebrate our outstanding students who participated in Huawei’s global Seeds for the Future initiative; including 32 students from the Digital Egypt Builders Initiative. I would like to express my gratitude for Huawei’s efforts to develop the digital skills of Egyptian youth; contribute to the construction of digital Egypt and the achievement of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
On behalf of Dr Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Hisham Farouk, Deputy Minister in charge of Digital Transformation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, underlined the ministry’s will to deepen cooperation with the private sector in order to qualify Egyptian youth for competition in global markets, stating, “We have fully cooperated with Huawei; starting with developing the infrastructure of universities, providing training programs for graduates and outstanding students such as the “Seeds for the Future” program. Huawei’s capacity building ecosystem includes all stakeholders, government and academic institutions, industry partners and beneficiaries, which guarantees the success of the initiative. We look forward to continuing our cooperation in such initiatives to qualify Egyptian youth to compete in global ICT markets.”
