There’s gonna be a lot of drama in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season two, and we’re not just talking about the drama department. On Thursday, Disney + unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming season, which premieres May 14, and we’re even more excited for the season ahead. After having done High school music for their fall musical, the East High students decide to do the natural follow-up with High School Musical 2. However, things take a turn for the worse when Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) meets her ex-boyfriend (played by Derek Hough).
As the theater department moves forward with a new production of The beauty and the Beast, they run into a few obstacles along the way. Nini (Olivia Rodrigo) has decided to leave East High and attend acting school, separating her from her friends and boyfriend Ricky (Joshua Bassett), but there are also new faces that are causing trouble. At one point, Olivia Rose Keegan’s new character, Lily asks Ricky, “Looks like your girlfriend wants some space. Let me know if you are looking for one that doesn’t want it. Ruh-roh! It sounds like a problem in paradise for Ricky and Nini.
The cast weren’t kidding when they said this season would be a lot more dramatic than the last. “There are new relationships, new characters, and so much drama,” Rodrigo told POPSUGAR. “You think you know what’s going to happen, but you don’t. It’s always twists and turns.” Plus, there are plenty of new musical numbers to look forward to, including new songs written by Bassett and Rodrigo, who have embarked on their own solo music careers since the end of the first season.
