Last night, class 4A basketball games for boys were held:
Cedar Falls 53, Dubuque, Hempstead 44
Davenport North 50, Dubuque Senior 48
Iowa City West 55, Pleasant Valley 36
On the second day of the High School Girls State Basketball tournament:
The Cascade Cougars improved their record to 26-0, matching the most wins in program history, matching the 2013-14 team. The Cougars beat Denver 41-28 in their Class 2A quarterfinals to start Game 2A at the tournament last night. Former Cougar Nicole McDermott led the way with 19 points, Ally Hoffman had 8, 7 for Jordan Simon, Abby Welter 4 and Skylar Dolphin 3. Cascade, who is in his ninth participation in the tournament, won a first round for the 8th time. The Cougars will advance to the semifinals on Friday morning at 10 a.m. and will face Osage who beat West Branch in the last drink 50-43.
The day started with the last 3A quarterfinal when Bishop of Sioux City Heelan defeated Des Moines Christian by 50-38. In game 4A, Clear Creek-Amana lost to No. 1 North Scott 58-38. Center Point-Urbana came back to beat Waverly-Shell Rock 45-41. Glenwood and Lewis Central were also winners.
Today class 2A and 1A quarter final. At 11:45 am, North Linn faces Western Christian, our coverage will start around 11:30. Sporting director Jon Swisher and Nate Sanderson will have the call.
