What there is to know
The Minnesota Vikings have the luxury of staying home for one more week and will host the New York Jets at 1 p.m. ET on December 4 at US Bank Stadium. Both of these teams are looking to build on the momentum of their previous victories.
Minnesota can’t say it has nothing to thank for this Thanksgiving week. They won against the New England Patriots by a score of 33-26 last week. The score was tied at the break 16-16, but the Vikings were the better team in the second half. They can credit much of their success to WR Justin Jefferson, who caught nine passes for a touchdown and 139 yards, and QB Kirk Cousins, who had three touchdowns and 299 yards on 37 attempts. Cousins hadn’t helped his team much against the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, so it was a good turnaround for him.
Meanwhile, New York made it easy for the Chicago Bears last Sunday to claim a 31-10 victory. The game was nearly over by the end of the third, at which point the Jets had established a 31-10 advantage. New York QB Mike White threw it as he passed for three touchdowns and 315 yards on 28 attempts. White’s 54-yard touchdown down the right side of the field against WR Garrett Wilson in the second quarter was one of the most memorable moments of the afternoon.
This next contest should be close, with the Vikings just a 3-point favorite. Those playing the odds have seen things come and go with Minnesota, which is 5-5-1 ATS.
Minnesota is now 9-2 while the Jets are 7-4. A pair of defensive stats to watch: Minnesota stumbles into the game with the most passing yards allowed per game in the NFL, having given up 293.3 on average. New York’s defense has more to brag about, as it ranks third in the league in touchdown passes allowed, with only ten this season. Maybe that strength will give New York the punch they need to beat the odds.
