People all over the world are adapting to new work from the style of home installation. The practice has resulted in an increase in video calls and webinars. Most companies have switched to video conferencing applications like Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc. to create digital meetings. What about those who don’t have a good webcam on their computer? Fortunately, there are webcam apps that let you use your iPhone or Android phone as a webcam on Windows and macOS.
Among these webcam applications, EpocCam is one of the best (yes, we have tried some) to transform your iPhone or Android into a webcam on Windows and macOS. It is available on all four platforms (Android, iOS, Windows and macOS) and provides seamless configuration between operating systems.
EpocCam is not limited to providing a live stream from the phone to the Windows PC. You can also use the software with video calling applications such as Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.
In this article, we will walk you through the complete configuration for using EpocCam with your Windows PC. So the next time you open the app to make or receive video calls, it will use EpocCam and stream the stream from the phone’s camera. Let’s start.
Configure EpocCam
Before using EpocCam with video calling applications on Windows, you must download and configure the service on mobile and PC.
First, download the EpocCam app on an Android, iOS or iPadOS device. Yes, it also works with the iPad.
Now go to Windows PC and go to the official website of EpocCam kinoni.com and scroll down. On the site, you will find the option Download Windows driver. Click on it and download the zip file to the device. Go to download the location to the device and extract the file. Drivers are essential for the EpocCam visualization application, and they allow the software to integrate with Skype, Zoom, Google Teams, etc. You must therefore install these drivers with administrative privileges.
The EpocCam drivers are compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 10. As with mobile applications, you would need an iPhone running iOS 10.3 or later or an Android device with at least Android 4.0 or later.
Now open the EpocCam app on the phone and the PC at the same time. Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network or use the USB data cable to start the live broadcast from the phone’s camera to the PC. A successful connection here means that the configuration is complete and ready for use with video calling applications.
Use EpocCam with Zoom
Zoom is one of the best video conferencing applications on the market. First, you need to download the Zoom app for Windows. Now open the Zoom app and tap the settings icon at the top. Go to Video> Camera and select EpocCam Camera from the menu.
EpocCam also allows you to use iPhone or Android phone as the default microphone on video calling applications on the Windows PC. To set it as the default microphone on Zoom, go to Zoom Settings> Audio> Microphone and select Kinoni Audio Service.
My experience with EpocCam on Zoom has been mixed. While I was working on a fine with a live video stream, I noticed some problems during long calls.
Use EpocCam with Skype
Skype is one of the oldest video calling solutions. You can download the app from the Microsoft Store.
Open Skype and tap the three-dot menu at the top. Select Settings> Audio & Video> Camera and select EpocCam Camera from the menu.
To use EpocCam as a microphone on Skype, go to Settings> Audio & video> Microphone and select Kinoni audio source from the menu.
Skype was my favorite choice for video calling applications. EpocCam works perfectly with it, but keep in mind that the phone or tablet will heat up a little if you keep it connected and use it for a very long time.
Use EpocCam with Microsoft teams
Microsoft Teams is up and running these days. The software is proving to be popular with corporate users and has recently surpassed 75 million active daily users on the platform.
To use EpocCam for video calls on Microsoft Teams, download and open the Microsoft Teams application. Tap the profile icon at the top and go to Settings. Go to the Devices menu and select Kinoni Audio Services from the microphone menu.
In the same menu, choose EpocCam as the default video camera on Microsoft Teams. So far, I have had no problems using EpocCam with teams.
Use EpocCam with Google Meet
Google Meet is proving a business virtual meeting product only successful for the search giant. Google attends 100 million monthly attendees at Google Meet. Google recently announced new additions to Google Meet and made the service free for everyone.
You can also use EpocCam with Google Meet. Open any web browser and go to Google Meet. From the Home screen, tap the settings icon at the top.
From the Audio menu, select Kinoni Audio Source as the default microphone. From the Video menu, select EpocCam Camera as the default video camera on Google Meet.
The EpocCam application is free, but it has some limitations. The free version is limited to 640 x 480 video resolution output. It also comes with advertisements and watermarks. To remove them, you can buy the paid version at $ 8, which increases the video output in Full HD, allowing you to use the phone as a microphone.
A few notes before finishing the post. When using your phone as a webcam in Windows, use a phone holder or a tripod for better stabilization. Constant streaming can drain the phone’s battery, so consider using the AC adapter or power bank with this. However, continuous use can also heat the phone. So make sure to give it a break too.
Use EpocCam like a pro
It is difficult to find a good and affordable webcam these days. Most are already out of stock or not delivered. And that’s where solutions like EpocCam come in. Download the necessary drivers and use the app with Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
