Need to find something Apple doesn’t want you to do on your Mac? We have the solution for you and like everything else on macOS, it’s not too difficult.
Some files are hidden for a reason, but the rules are meant to be broken. macOS is odd because it desperately tries to be the “simpler” of the two major operating systems, it’s built from the more complex.
You can go all the way back to when Steve Jobs created NeXT and was later acquired by Apple. Unix came about as a kind of “what you see is what you get”.

When Apple updated OSX after buying NeXT, it switched to this Unix system. This is partly the reason why macOS hides a lot of files. Quite complex and easily breakable items inside these folders can ruin your PC.
However, we are all predisposed to fumble with the operating systems we use every day. Even though Apple tries to cover things up, it’s actually very easy to lift the sheets.
How to Show Hidden Files on macOS
In folders such as your main user folder or Macintosh HD, if you press the following keys:
Command + Shift +

You will suddenly see that “hidden” files will appear. To delete them again, just press the same button combination.

Here you’ll find things like your ssh folder, temporary files, and built-in Python versions of macOS.
That’s all we can say about it. These folders will contain sensitive or important files, including items needed to modify how macOS works. Make sure you know what you’re looking for before deleting items.
If you’re just curious, it’s okay to poke around. A lot of the files will be miscellaneous garbage that you don’t have to worry about anyway. Who knows what’s in the temp folder, but we all know not to touch anything with a longer filename than the Mac can display.
