YouTube shorts are now faster to create. Learn how to customize your YouTube Shorts thumbnail without leaving the YouTube app on Android.
Android users can now customize Youtube Shorts via mobile app. Until Google launched Shorts, the YouTube app was a hub for viewers, while creators did most of their work on the platform’s desktop tool, YouTube Studio. Today, YouTube is adapting to give creators more flexibility in producing content on mobile phones.
YouTube has dominated the long-form video market for years. While Facebook and Instagram were equally popular, they contrasted platforms with different intentions. Sure, short-form video apps like Vine popped up, but they just as quickly disappeared due to management failure. It wasn’t until TikTok came along that YouTube had a real rivalry. So much so that Google introduced YouTube Shorts, a replica of TikTok. Integrated into the YouTube app, Shorts strives to deliver the same benefits creators get on the competing app. While users could customize their Shorts thumbnails through YouTube Studio, they requested the same capability on the mobile app. For Android users, Google has succeeded.
Google has made it easy to customize the thumbnail on a YouTube short film, and Android users can say goodbye to YouTube Studio. Once the video has been saved or imported, go to the final post-editing screen. In the video thumbnail, tap the pencil icon. To select a thumbnail, navigate along the video timeline and click ‘Do‘ when selected. Once the short is uploaded, YouTube will present the chosen image from the video to the viewers. Users will find that this process saves time on content creation as they no longer need to log into YouTube Studio to complete the task.
Can you select a short thumbnail on iPhone?
Unsurprisingly, Android users will be the first to receive this new feature. Since the tech giant owns the Android operating system, it makes sense that Google would prioritize Android users over the iPhone. Although Google hasn’t indicated that iOS will receive the feature, the tool will likely roll out to iPhones soon. While many designers are turning their attention to high-end camera phones, it’s hard to ignore the iPhone’s 18% market share in the global smartphone market. Apple users can rest assured that Google will bring this new feature to their phones eventually.
Users cannot change the thumbnail once the short is published. However, Google has already indicated that this is a feature they will introduce in the future. YouTube has added better creator features to attract talent. In addition to improved features, Google has updated the YouTube Partner Program to include short film creators. With this level of focus on designer acquisition, Youtube strengthens its position as the leading video platform.
