Microsoft Flight Simulator is an incredibly awesome game. One who uses built-in map data and AI to recreate the world in impressive detail. It also comes with a steep learning curve (it’s a flight simulator, after all). But once you navigate the sky, take in the scenery and the serenity of it all, you might want to invite someone over to take in the views. Well, you’re in luck, because Microsoft Flight Simulator offers multiplayer for that.

Playing with friends or random players is nowhere near as complex as piloting your plane. For help with this last part, check out our guide to how-to tips and tricks. Now let’s take off!

From here you can select a traffic setting. If you are using the Live traffic Optionally, the game will simulate the air traffic on the live database and provide a more immersive experience. But if the “real world” isn’t your thing, you can change it to AI traffic or completely disable in-game air traffic.

Finally, Weather and time can only be changed if you are not playing with the Live Players option. If you choose Live Players, the weather and time of day will mimic current conditions around the world.

Are we there already?

Now that your pre-flight check is ready, choose from one of the many planes available, set your details and start your flight. Your friends don’t have to fly with the same coordinates as you, but I like to go on the same runway. If you can’t find your friends, make a quick change in the menu.

  1. From the game menu, choose Options then General. You can also access this setting from the in-game menu if you’ve been on a plane before.
