It’s a big week for Swifties. Not only did Taylor Swift unexpectedly show up at Coachella with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but her new album, The Department of Tortured Poetsdebuts Friday.

The upcoming release marks Swift’s 11th studio album (not counting her four re-recorded albums), and fans have been guessing what the new songs will be about since she first announced it. Tortured poets in February during the 2024 Grammys. Well, we don’t have to wait too much longer: the countdown is on.

How to listen to Taylor Swift’s new album

Swift’s new album is expected to be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, on Friday at midnight. You can pre-order or pre-add the album now. Spotify even has a live countdown showing the seconds until drop.

Lyrics from Taylor Swift’s new album leaked

Swift is a genius at avoiding leaks before release dates, but she shared some suspect lyrics on social media ahead of the album’s debut.

In the same Instagram post that initially announced The Department of Tortured Poetsthe singer included in a file an image of papers that read: “And so I enter into proof / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of the bombs of love / My veins of black ink.”

Swift also included several phrases in other Instagram posts that she then used to caption five of them. Curated Apple Music playlists. These playlists are divided into five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) and feature previous songs that Swift says correlate with each stage. The names of the respective playlists (and suspected lyrics of the songs on Tortured poets) are “I love you, it’s ruining my life”, “You can’t talk to me about sadness”, “Am I allowed to cry?” “Old habits die screaming” and “I can do it with a broken heart.”

Why did Taylor Swift name her new album “The Tortured Poets Department”?

Although Swift hasn’t confirmed the meaning of her new album’s name, fans were quick to speculate that the title referred to a WhatsApp group named “The Tortured Man Club” that she her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn admitted to being part of during Variety interview. The group chat also reportedly included actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.

How many songs will there be on “The Tortured Poets Department”?

Swift shared via Instagram that her new album will feature 16 songs, plus a bonus song called “The Manuscript.” The tracklist is:
