Being a hot girl is not about gender. It is about an atmosphere.
Summer doesn’t officially start in Pittsburgh until June 20, but many are already talking online about their hot girl summer plans. As of June 15, more than 57% of Pennsylvanians aged 18 and over had been fully immunized, and many opportunities to get out are opening again. But despite the tendency to think that the only way to have fun is to spend money, there are still ways to have a hot girls summer while on a budget.
“A hot girls’ summer really means a summer that’s for you, you know, where you do whatever you want, like doing moves for yourself,” says Shori Sims, a student at Carnegie Mellon University. “A hot girls summer can mean different things to different people, as long as you are just, like, making yourself and living your best life.”
Sims, 21, credits and associates the concept of a hot girls summer with Megan Thee Stallion’s 2019 song “Hot Girl Summer,” starring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ ign. The song was released on August 8, 2019, although Megan Thee Stallion announced its release on July 18 on Twitter.
“I feel like Megan really broke a few years ago, that’s when this genre entered the cultural lexicon.” Sims said.
Sims plans to focus her hot girl summer on making money and getting smarter because “a smart girl is a hot girl.”
According to Google Trends, the term “hot girl summer” hit its peak number of web searches in August 2019. The term’s popularity subsequently plummeted, with a small resurgence to one-third of its initial popularity at the summer 2020. But now the phrase is back and could reach or exceed its initial popularity in 2019.
“People didn’t even think about being hot last summer. They were thinking about surviving, “Sims says.” But now I feel like it’s really come back big. ”
When trying to figure out how to have a hot girl’s summer, going back to the source material is a good place to start. In the pre-chorus, Megan Thee Stallion sings: “I have a lot of options because you know a bitch having a blast / I’m a hot girl, so you know nothing stops,” indicating that a hot girl in summer means having self-confidence, knowing what you want for yourself and not settling for less.
“I have a mule,” says Owen Hipwell, 24, who works as a bartender. “Pretty happy with that. Probably one of the best decisions I have made in the past few months. I’m going to get a tattoo, I decided to start training again. … Also dress in a more ridiculous way or at least just try harder to [my appearance] certainly I haven’t done this in the last year and a half.
When looking for clothes that match the way they want to present themselves,
Hipwell and The Sims recommend going to thrift stores and consignment stores such as Clothes Minded in Bloomfield, Avalon Exchange in Squirrel Hill and Red, White & Blue Thrift Store, which has locations in Beltzhoover and Avalon.
But for Hipwell, having a hot girl in the summer is also going out so that you can be seen as a hot girl. While many of the options that open up for going out cost money – whether it’s buying tickets, drinks, or food – there are plenty of places one can go, hang out with friends. friends and spend little or no money.
“I hung out at my friend’s house, just like watching stuff, we skateboarded…” Sims says. “Even window shopping, like, you can do it for free. And it’s pretty fun to watch, to try on clothes and stuff like that.
Other free spaces include libraries, which benefit from air conditioning, and public parks and pools, which Hipwell says have the advantage of letting you feel all the summer heat, as he thinks “a part of it. important hot summer girls are sweating. IT out. ”
The areas along the three rivers are also great places to relax with friends, bring a picnic, or take a stroll and take in the views. Hipwell recommends having friends in high and low places, especially if they have a pool, and inviting friends over to do chores with you, whether at home or outside.
“I convince people to go to Home Depot with me all the time. And then get them to bring things back with me, ”Hipwell says. “I need to get some stuff from Home Depot, why don’t you walk with me?” And it’s like, oh, you got to bring this wood back now.
For those with a bit of cash – but not too much – to spend on a hot girls’ summer, there are also low-cost options like the Carnegie Museums. The Sims also recommend small self-care experiences, including getting your nails done or having your eyebrows plucked, which are “little things that, like, you instantly feel a million times better.”
“Feeling a sexy girl is something that comes from within,” Sims says. “If you feel like a hot girl then this is what you are. No one else can tell you if you are a hot girl or not.
