Since Microsoft launched Windows 11 in 2021, the tech giant has found new ways to insert ads into the world’s most popular PC operating system. Now, the company has started rolling out ads in the Start menu.
According to the release notes for the recently rolled out KB5036980 update, Windows 11 users will now see “recommendations” for Microsoft Store apps in the Start menu. Microsoft says these apps “come from a small, select group of developers” and “will help you discover some of the great apps available.”

How to disable ads in the Windows 11 Start menu
1. Open the Start menu, find and launch the “Settings” app.
2. Click “Personalization” and tap “Start” on the left pane.
3. Disable the “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, etc.” option. “.
Although this method currently prevents ads from appearing in what is arguably one of the most used features on Windows PCs, Microsoft could remove the toggle in future versions of Windows 11.
