Now that the Brydge C-Touch wireless trackpad is out of the picture, we thought it was the right time to go back to Apple’s Magic Trackpad 2 and give it a spin again. We discovered the addition of this accessory to Chrome OS a long time ago and since then, the Magic Trackpad has no longer been able to navigate in Chrome OS. In fact, at this point, the experience is so good that it almost feels like it was made for Chrome OS at the start.
->If you have a Magic Trackpad 2 or plan to buy one, the setup is fairly simple. Just turn on the device and it will automatically go into pairing mode if it is not currently connected to anything. It can be associated with several devices, but will only allow one connection at a time.
Then open your Bluetooth settings on your Chromebook and wait a second or two. You will see “Apple Magic Trackpad 2” appear in the available devices section. Click on it and pairing will be done in a few seconds. Once paired, the trackpad will manage each gesture used by Chrome OS and the experience is literally perfect. I use it for a few days and I can say that it works incredibly well despite the Bluetooth inconsistencies of Chrome OS.
Another advantage is the possibility of pairing the trackpad with several devices. All you have to do is follow the pairing process above, turn off the trackpad, wait a second, turn it back on, and then follow the exact same process on another Chromebook. Once done, you can turn off the trackpad, wait a few seconds, turn it back on, and then just press “sign in” on the Chromebook you’re ready to use the trackpad with. Easy!
->While we are sad to see the Brydge C-Touch abandoned, the fact that we have the option of using a well-designed and well-supported trackpad makes this much less damaging. Plus, Apple’s haptics in this trackpad are so incredibly good that they make it seem like you really click on each press, even if it doesn’t move at all. There’s not much to hate here if we’re being honest, so go hang an Apple Magic Trackpad if you’re looking for a great desk accessory. ->
