How to Change Your Hotspot Name on iPhone and Android – How-To Geek

To make your mobile hotspot appear with a different name on other devices, you can change your hotspot name on your iPhone and Android phone. We’ll show you how to do that.

When renaming your hotspot, you can choose any name you like. Keep in mind, however, that any devices that have saved your network password will need to re-enter the password. This is because these devices see your renamed access point as a new wireless network.

Change Hotspot Name on iPhone

To change your iPhone’s hotspot name, you’ll need to change your phone’s name. Indeed, Apple does not allow you to use a dedicated name for your mobile hotspot. It uses your phone name as the access point name.

To make this change, first launch Settings on your iPhone. In Settings, choose General > About.

Select "About."

In “About”, select “Name”.

Picking out "Last name."

On the “Name” page, tap on your existing name and erase it. Then enter your new name.

When you’re done, in the top left corner, tap “About” to return to the previous screen.

Rename Hotspot SSID on Android Phone

Unlike the iPhone, you can assign a dedicated name to your hotspot on your Android phone. The exact steps to do this will vary slightly depending on your phone model, but generally you’ll use the following steps.

On your Android phone, launch Settings and go to Wi-Fi & network > Hotspot & tethering > Wi-Fi hotspot.

Tap “Access Point Name”.

Select "Access point name."

In the “Access Point Name” prompt, erase the existing name and enter your new name. Then press “OK”.

Type the new access point name and press "OKAY."

Back on the ‘Wi-Fi hotspot’ page, under ‘Hotpoint name’ you will see your new name.

If you are using a Samsung Android phone, you can rename your hotspot by going to Settings > Connections > Mobile hotspot & tethering > Mobile hotspot > Configure, tapping “Network name”, entering the new name and selecting “Save”.

Enter the new access point name and press "To safeguard."

And that’s how you can surprise your friends with weird Wi-Fi network names!
