The 2022/23 Premier League season is underway as elite football continues to ramp up ahead of this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.
The COVID-19 lockdown has seen the 2020/21 campaign condense to fit all games after the season started a month late.
It saw more midweek matches than ever before as the top flight was ramped up to adjust to the revamped European Championships over the summer.
The players had little time to rest before last season and with the Qatar World Cup in winter 2022 there is still plenty of football to come.
Will the World Cup affect the 2022/23 Premier League season?
The 2021/22 domestic season started on August 13 and ran until May 22.
It was the second to have a winter break in February despite having no major football this summer.
The Qatar World Cup will take place next at the end of the year, meaning it will cause major disruption to the new Premier League campaign.
This included a start date of August 6, 2022 and a final day of May 28, 2023.
The Premier League will take a break during this term after the weekend of November 12/13 before resuming fixtures on Boxing Day.
The players will have a week of preparation with their national teams before traveling to the tournament in the Middle East.
They will then have just eight days to recover in time for the league to resume if they reach the World Cup final on December 18.
The leaders of the 20 Premier League clubs were in London last summer for a scheduled meeting, and the schedule for 2022/23 has been decided.
There should only be six weekends without Premier League games.
