How Christian Bale and Robert De Niro Really Feel About Collaborating With David O. Russell in Amsterdam – Looper

David O. Russell’s films have an eccentric quality and are filled with rich characters and compelling storylines. For Christian Bale, it is this individual signature that makes him eager to sign Russell’s films. “David is very unique. He’s very special,” observed Bale. “He has his own perspective.”

On “Amsterdam,” the collaboration between Bale and Russell was particularly close – they met for years to discuss the film in a restaurant before the cameras finally rolled. It was an experience that Bale seemed to particularly enjoy. “I was really grateful that David invited me for the whole trip,” the actor confessed. “It was bliss from start to finish.”

Likewise, Robert De Niro had nothing but positive things to say about his work with Russell. “I had an amazing time working with him,” De Niro explained. “We would talk, and he would call me. Once in a while, we would get together whenever we could, and it just evolved into what it was.”

De Niro also appreciates Russell’s spontaneity during filming. “He writes while he shoots,” De Niro revealed. “He stands behind the camera operator with the Steadicam or the handheld and tells him where to go and sometimes tells the actors what to say. And sometimes the best dialogue and the best dialogue delivery can come out of those times. .”

“Amsterdam” opens in theaters on October 7.
