According to a new report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), HONOR could ultimately be banned by the United States, despite the separation from Huawei. As most of you now know, HONOR is no longer owned by Huawei. The company was sold some time ago, presumably to allow Huawei to raise funds.

HONOR at risk of US banning despite Huawei severed ties

That said, HONOR is now licensed to use Google services and can continue to do business as usual. Well, for now. If this report is correct, HONOR may be banned in the future.

The report says that a group of 14 Republican politicians in the US House of Representatives have asked the US Department of Commerce to add HONOR to the government’s economic blacklist.

As a reminder, Huawei was added to the list of US entities in May 2019. From that point on, Huawei was prohibited from purchasing parts and components from US companies or using US technology without it. explicit approval from the US government.

Republican politicians claim HONOR was created to avoid US ban

Now the aforementioned politicians, led by Michael McCaul, claim that HONOR has been separated from Huawei “in an effort to evade US export control policies designed to keep US technology and software out of the hands of the Chinese Communist Party ( PCC) “.

A spokesperson for the US Department of Commerce responded to Republican politicians. He said the agency appreciates this prospect. He also added that the department “continually reviews the information available to identify potential additions to the entity list.”

At the moment, we have no information from Huawei or HONOR. Neither company answered any of these questions, as they probably don’t feel the need to do so at the moment.

It appears that HONOR is in no immediate danger of being added to the list of US entities. Yet the US Department of Commerce is constantly on the lookout for any threats. HONOR is surely at the center of their concerns, as a precaution, simply because it comes from Huawei.
