Honda Prelude successor rumored to arrive in 2028 as an electric vehicle

More than two decades have passed since the last Honda Prelude. Discontinued in 2001, the two-door sports coupe was among the exciting vehicles in the Japanese brand’s extensive lineup. But since the revival of old nameplates has become the trend in recent years (hello Toyota Supra and Acura Integra), there is hope for the return of the Prelude.

While electrification is already taking hold for the Japanese automaker, a recent rumor from Japan indicates that the Prelude’s successor could be an electric vehicle and will be introduced in 2008. In fact, the model was already teased in the sheet roadmap of electric vehicles from Honda, which was revealed in April this year.

The rumor came from Japan Best Car Web, indicating that the two electric sports cars teased by Honda in the roadmap are successors to the Prelude and NSX (see the main image at the top of this page). The Acura NSX is rumored to return as an all-electric model, even suggested by Acura vice president and brand manager Jon Ikeda himself.

Officially, however, Honda has declared these two electric sports cars to be a specialty and flagship model, both offered worldwide. Along with the EV roadmap pictured above, Honda also shared some insight into its plan for this decade.

The North American market will get two mid-to-large EVs in 2024, currently being co-developed with GM – the all-new Honda Prologue SUV has already been unveiled, and then there’s also a new EV SUV for Acura. In China, the Honda e:N series of electric vehicles will see 10 new models by 2027. Japan, on the other hand, will receive a mini-EV model for commercial use by early 2024, followed by mini-EVs for personal use and EV SUVs. .

The second half of the 2020s will see affordable Honda electric vehicles, still being developed through its alliance with GM. A total of 30 Honda EV models will be introduced globally by 2030, with production set at over 2 million units per year.
