Bennett’s 26 points lead Flyers to victory over Cedar City

After taking a lead early in the first quarter, the Flyers lost momentum and were tied at halftime. Dixie was able to regroup and ultimately come away with the 62-59 victory.

“Cedar are a very good and well-trained team,” said Dixie coach Tyler Roberts. “We knew they would come out and play us hard. Proud of the way our guys continued to grind. We offered saves and big rebounds when we needed them.

Ethan Bennett lost 26 points in the win while Isaac Finlinson added another 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dixie improves to 3-0 in regional play and 9-2 overall, only second behind undefeated Desert Hills. The Flyers will visit Crimson Cliffs on Friday for another Region 9 game.

Morley’s drummer buzzer wins for North Sanpete

In a back-and-forth that came down to the wire, North Sanpete’s Trevin Morley hit a 15-foot jump with just 0.6 seconds on the clock to claim the 49-47 victory over Juab. Morley finished the night with 17 points overall, and Landon Bowles also hit double digits to help the Hawks take the narrow victory.

North Sanpete improves to 3-1 in the region’s play and will host Delta on Friday.

The Wasps were led by Ty Allred’s 18 points in the loss.

Morgan wins in the back and forth

The Trojans had a tough 63-57 victory over the Bulldogs in their region opener.

“Even with a limited audience the gym was loud and excited,” Morgan coach Brad Matthews said. “Both teams played well. Coming back and forth the whole game. Sam Hansen and Dom Burns both had phenomenal games. Our boys played hard and won a difficult victory against a very good team.

Sam Hansen finished the night with 23 points – 15 of which came from behind the arc – while teammates Eli Bailey and Nixon Ordyna combined for 29 more in the victory. In the loss, Judge Memorial was led by 23 points from Dom Burns.

Morgan will travel to Grantsville on Friday hoping to hand the Cowboys their second loss of the season.

The Eagles used a balanced scoring attack and got 21 points from the free throw line to secure the 53-48 victory over Gunnison. Brock Adams had 17 points, the game’s high, and Tate Gatherum finished with 12 points in the win.

Duchesne improves to 2-0 in the regional game and will face Altamont this Friday.
