Frank Leboeuf gave Sevilla defender Jules Kounde a good review amid important transfer links to Chelsea.
Speaking on ESPN, Leboeuf gave his opinion on the potential new recruit to arrive at Stamford Bridge.
Koundé is now seriously under the microscope of Thomas Tuchel’s Champions League winners.
Chelsea intend to sign Sevilla center-back, but just need to find a deal that appeals to both sides.
Londoners do not want to pay his £ 68.4million release clause in full (Guardian).
Instead, they are willing to offer a player more money in exchange for Kounde.
Kurt Zouma was first introduced as the tradable coin, although it appears the 26-year-old wants to stay in the capital.
Whatever the Blues plan to do, they would have Leboeuf’s blessing vis-à-vis his compatriot.
“He’s (Koundé) a fantastic player,” said the former Chelsea center-half.
” He has got everything. He’s a warrior. He never gives up. He has got everything. He is the future for sure.
“Maybe it’s an opportunity for Chelsea to maybe not have it this season, but next season.
“I don’t know what Koundé wants to do with his life, if he’s ready to be on the bench more than he thinks. It’s up to him to decide.
“It would be a good signing for Chelsea.”
Although he wasn’t 23 until November, Kounde already has a wealth of experience under his belt.
He played 159 combined senior appearances for Sevilla and Bordeaux, including in the Champions League and Europa League.
Not to mention an appearance at the European Championships this summer with France.
Statistically, he was one of the best players in La Liga last season.
So it’s no surprise that Chelsea want to keep him away from their Spanish colony.
Who makes Kounde disappear is another question that Tuchel and the Blues board must try to figure out.
