Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s viral moment at the 65th Grammy Awards held on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, in Los Angeles is finally decoded.
The couple caught the eye of netizens as they were caught arguing on camera while Trevor Noah did some comedy sitting next to the couple.
It started with Affleck whispering something in Lopez’s ear and she responded to him in a scolding manner. The couple, however, quickly recovered once they realized they were being filmed.
entertainment tonight broke down the moment with the help of a lip reader, Jeremy Freeman, who provided insight into the conversation.
“I believe when Ben Affleck whispered in Jennifer Lopez’s ear, she replied, ‘Stop. Look friendlier. Look motivated,” Freeman said AND. “[Then] she turned away and Ben Affleck closed uncomfortably… and [said]’I could’.”

However, a source told the outlet that the reason Affleck’s scowling expressions were because he was “tired.”
“Jen and Ben had a fun night at the Grammys, but they were both very busy working on several projects, and Ben was feeling tired,” the source said. “He wanted to go support Jen, but he wasn’t as usual.”
The source also noted that Lopez “knows how much Ben is supportive of her and her work, but also understands that Ben is more of a homebody, and it’s not his thing to be at events all the time.”
“She appreciates his support,” the source concluded, “whether it’s while they’re out or just at home.”
