Texas-based Hennessey is set to blow the roof off the Venom F5 to give it unlimited headroom for a Roadster version. To be present at The Quail, the roofless hypercar will replace the Venom GT Spyder. Much like its predecessor, it will have a removable roof, allowing owners to remove the panels and enjoy the weather while listening to more of that smooth-sounding V8.
Along with releasing a revealing image for the livestream, Hennessey confirms that the Venom F5 Roadster will inherit the coupe’s 6.6-litre “Fury” twin-turbo engine. The American tuner claims it will be the most powerful roadster of all with an astonishing 1,817 hp. It should have the same immense 1,193 pound-feet (1,617 Newton-meters) of torque from an engine loosely based on an LS V8.

Chances are the gearbox will also be identical, meaning a seven-speed, single-clutch semi-automatic with paddle shifters will route the massive output to the rear wheels only. We’re curious how much it weighs compared to the coupe, which tips the scales at just 1,360 kilograms (2,998 pounds). One of the reasons it’s so light has to do with a glaring omission since the Venom F5 doesn’t have airbags.
Hennessy only makes 24 Venom Cups and those have long since sold out. We expect the Roadster to be exclusive as well and won’t be too surprised if it costs more than the $2.1 million coupe.
Sooner or later, one can only imagine that the Spyder will attempt to top the 265.6 mph (427.4 km/h) achieved by the Venom GT Spyder in March 2016 when it beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse by 11 mph. However, the first task is to break the 300 mph barrier with the Coupe. Ideally, this will be the average speed of two runs in opposite directions instead of just one, which was the case with the Chiron Super Sport 300+ at 304 mph.
