You might need the help of someone more tech-savvy to set this up, but it’s not at all difficult.
Dear Héloïse, I am interested in a laptop. What features should I look for?
Helen in Colorado: Choosing the right laptop for you requires many considerations. What will you use it for: playing games, downloading videos and photos, creating documents, visiting social networking sites? How you plan to use a laptop will determine how much memory you need and how much processing speed you need. You’ll also want to consider battery life, especially if you’re away from a power source for a very long time.
Before you decide, do your research and speak with a knowledgeable computer salesperson to choose the right laptop for your needs and budget.
Dear Héloïse, Your column is popular, but it almost always misuses the word “recycle”. Examples of recycling are crushing / smelting glass to make new glass products, crushing / smelting aluminum cans to make new metal products, smelting plastic jugs to make carpet, etc. recycling in their homes.
You are generally promoting “reuse”. Please see the definitions of the following: reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reducing is reducing the amount of waste we make; to reuse is to find a new way to use an object so as not to have to throw it away; and recycling breaks down the material to make new products.
Please help us educate the public on the three steps to a better environment!
Dear Héloïse, When I color my hair I don’t like to have the color all over my neck because the treated hair is touching the skin. I just tie an old sock around my neck with a safety pin, and my neck remains unblemished.
Dear Héloïse, How to restore softness to terrycloth towels that have developed a certain rigidity over time since their use?
Stuart: This should solve your problem. Wash the bath towels without detergent, but instead add 1 cup of ammonia, then run the towels through a second rinse cycle.
