Dishonored Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was transferred from the hospital to a Rikers Island jail infirmary in New York.
Weinstein was guilty on February 24 of one count for having committed a sexual offense against a woman in 2006 and of a third degree rape count for a 2013 attack on another woman.
But instead of being taken directly to jail to await his conviction, he was taken from Manhattan court to Bellevue Hospital due to concerns about his blood pressure and heart palpitations.
Weinstein spokeswoman Juda Engelmayer said the 67-year-old woman had had a “successful” heart procedure but gave no further details.
Weinstein also has a number of other health problems, according to his lawyers – back problems following a car accident last summer and a condition that requires shots in the eyes to avoid blindness.
His lawyer Arthur Aidala visited him at the hospital on Thursday and said he was “clearly not the picture of health”.
Aidala added: “He is obviously not happy where he is. But he is lucid and realistic about everything. He is always in a state of disbelief.”
Weinstein is to be sentenced next Wednesday and faces a maximum of 25 years in prison for criminal sex and a maximum of four years for third degree rape.
He was acquitted of charges of sexual assault against him which would have been punishable by maximum life imprisonment.
Weinstein was once the king of Hollywood, a man with the power to make and break careers in movies.
But in October 2017, in reports from the New York Times and the New Yorker, the Oscar-winning producer was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women. He was also accused of reaching settlements to silence the stories.
In the months that followed, dozens of additional women appeared to allege decades-old cases of rape, sexual assault and harassment by Weinstein.
He admitted that his behavior “caused a lot of pain”, but systematically denied all the sexual allegations made against him.
