Harry Maguire is set to miss the derby against Manchester City through injury, according to Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag.
The centre-back has played in both England games during the international break, playing 90 minutes against Italy and Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
Despite playing the full two matches, Maguire reportedly struggled with a hamstring injury, leading Harry Kane to say “he played another five or 10 minutes on almost one leg”.
However, the power has apparently come at a cost, with the 29-year-old now ruled out of the clash with rivals Manchester City.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Ten Hag said: “Harry Maguire is injured and I think for the rest we have doubts, with Anthony Martial, but he has been training all week with the squad.
“So I’m really happy with this situation, he is doing very well in training and making a good impression.
“Marcus Rashford has returned to training, so I’m happy with that as well.”
Discussing Maguire, Ten Hag added: “First of all I have to train him, I have to support him but I support him because I believe in him.
“During the period I work with him, pre-season, really well, training and games. The quality was really there.
“You see his career, almost 50 caps for England, with Leicester and Man United, what you see is high potential. It’s about him then.
“Player, coach, coaches, we all believe in him. I am convinced that he will turn around.
Of course, Manchester United face a tough task as they take on in-form striker Erling Haaland.
After scoring 14 goals in 10 games for City, Ten Hag’s defense faces a tough challenge, but according to the Dutchman, it’s up to Pep Guardiola’s entire squad and not just the Norwegian striker.
He said: “We are not playing against Haaland, we are playing against Man City. They have a good team and more than 11 players.
“We are convinced of our abilities. If we act as a team in and out of possession, we can beat our opponents.
