Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star in Yellowstone 1923 spinoff’s first dramatic trailer

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren battled it out in the Wild West on Sunday when Paramount released the first trailer for its Yellowstone 1923 spin-off series.

Legendary Ford, 80, and Oscar winner Mirren, 77, have officially entered the sprawling universe of Yellowstone as they anchor the final chapter in the Dutton family’s origin story.

The iconic actors play the central couple of Jacob and Cara Dutton, who struggle to keep their breeding empire going in the titular year of 1923.

According to an official plot synopsis released by Paramount+, the show is set in the “early 20th century, when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression plagued the Mountain West and the Dutton who inhabit it”.

“You have no rights here,” growls Cara Dutton of Mirren at the start of the trailer.

Talk of a “war from a distance” soon takes hold as the Duttons come into conflict with Timothy Dalton’s new wealthy neighbor, named Donald Whitfield.

Decadence, dust, guns and sand abound throughout the 90-second trailer as Harrison and Helen fully inhabit their tough-talking characters.

“Men kill quickly with a bullet or a noose,” Mirren says, affecting an Irish purr. “But your fight is with me and I kill much slower.”

“You are not a god Jacob Dutton!” shouts an angry cowboy at Harrison Ford.

“Tell the world what happens when they cross me,” Ford says at one point in his signature rasp.

“Greed will be the thing that will kill us all,” Mirren says towards the end.

Premiering December 18 on Paramount+, 1923 is Yellowstone’s second prequel following last year’s 1883.

This show followed the Duttons as they traveled to Montana and fought to establish the family ranch.

It starred real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as central couple James and Margaret Dutton, with Sam Elliot playing the rugged leader of their wagon.

The fifth season of Yellowstone debuted earlier this month, racking up 12.1 million viewers and cementing its place as a pop culture juggernaut.

The star who started it all remains Kevin Costner, 67, who reportedly anchored Yellowstone for a whopping $1.3 million per episode.

1923 seems like a surefire hit for the pair of legendary stars who have saddled up to tell the tale.

“You’re attacking my family,” Harrison said, “that’ll be the last thing you do.”
