Seismic surveys are an essential tool in the oil and gas industry. Effective use of seismic surveys allows industry professionals to identify prospects, evaluate potential resources, reduce risks and even quantify reserves – in short, make informed decisions that lead to success exploration efforts.
Enverus World Scout Network provides real-time information on seismic survey activities around the world.
In mid-September 2023, the PGS vessel “Ramform Titan” continued its MC3D seismic acquisition operations in the Egyptian waters of the western Mediterranean. The vessel mobilized in Egypt’s ultra-deep waters (~2,500 m depth) in late July 2023, to launch the 5,900 km² Merneith & Luxor GeoStreamer project. The campaign, carried out in partnership with NOC EGAS, aims to improve imaging and understanding of the area between the Herodotus and Nile Delta basins, where pre-salt Oligo-Miocene clastic prospectivity has been identified. The acquisition area covers the open areas of Blocks 11 and 12, as well as intermediate coverage between three licenses operated by Shell, namely North Cleopatra Offshore, North Marina Offshore and North El Fanar Offshore.

Understanding seismic studies
Seismic surveys produce detailed images and can provide crucial information about underground rock layers. This process involves emitting acoustic waves, recording their reflections and measuring their characteristics. Using this technology, oil and gas companies gain valuable information about potential reserves.
Seismic studies in the oil and gas industry
The oil and gas industry relies heavily on seismic surveys to find offshore oil and gas reserves. Globally, the use of seismic surveys has been a reliable practice for almost 100 years, a testament to its effectiveness. The International Association of Geophysical Contractors attests to the cost-effectiveness and effectiveness of seismic surveys, making them an essential part of exploration strategies.
Contributions to energy supply
Seismic plays a critical role in meeting growing global and national energy demands. With advances in seismic imaging technology and data processing, the industry’s ability to locate offshore resources in particular has significantly improved.
Continued innovation and adoption of sustainable practices will further reduce the impact of seismic surveys, helping to ensure a responsible and prosperous future for the oil and gas industry. With seismic surveys as a guide, industry professionals will continue to make confident, informed decisions that shape the future of energy exploration.
