The search for missing Manchester girl Harmony Montgomery is now a homicide investigation, law enforcement officials said on Thursday. Attorney General John Formella said investigators now believe Harmony was killed in early December 2019. The search for missing Manchester girl Harmony Montgomery is now a homicide investigation, law enforcement officials said on Thursday.

Attorney General John Formella said investigators now believe Harmony was killed in early December 2019. He said the investigation is now a homicide investigation.

“We understand this is truly devastating news for Harmony’s family, friends and loved ones,” Formella said. “Our thoughts are with them.”

Harmony was thought to have disappeared between November 28 and December 10, 2019, when she was 5 years old, but police did not learn of her disappearance for over two years.

“I really thought I was going to take her home,” said Crystal Sorey, Harmony’s mother. “I just found out she never even disappeared. She’s been gone this whole time.”

Formella said Harmony’s remains have not been located, but recently confirmed biological evidence and multiple sources of information have led investigators to conclude that she was killed. He provided no information about the evidence.

An emotional Manchester Police Chief, Allen Aldenberg, said he was saddened it had turned into a homicide investigation.

“As I have said from the beginning of this investigation and throughout, every effort has been made to bring Harmony home to her family,” he said. “Our commitment to bringing Harmony home hasn’t wavered, and neither will he.”

He urged anyone with information to come forward and call the hotline that has been set up at 603-203-6060.

“Now is the time. It’s time to act and do the right thing,” Aldenberg said. “Call this hotline or contact Manchester Police Service as you see fit. Harmony is a sweet, innocent child who deserves to be brought home to her family and friends.”

“We urge you to provide all the information you know,” Sorey said. “We just want to find his body so we can rest it.”

Officials did not respond to any questions at the press conference announcing the homicide investigation.

New Hampshire children’s attorney Cassandra Sanchez called the news heartbreaking, especially after seeing how the state came together to get answers in the case.

“I’m so hopeful that law enforcement can charge someone, that there can be justice for this child,” Sanchez said. “She really deserves it, and so does her family, so I really hope people work together to bring out the information that law enforcement is looking for to solidify a case and bring charges.”

Sanchez said his offices will continue to learn from the case to help protect children in the future.

Harmony’s biological brother, Jamison, was adopted by a couple, who also tried to adopt Harmony.

In a statement, they said: “Harmony should enjoy the fun children experience every summer. Instead, we are all left with a depth of sadness that we find hard to accept or understand. Our son, Jamison , will always be challenged to try to understand the brutal and senseless loss of his sister.”
