The Ħamrun Spartans have lodged a complaint against their exclusion from the UEFA Champions League with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Spartans have been banned from the UEFA Champions League qualifiers this season after the European governing body’s appeal board dismissed their complaint against their exclusion from this season’s competition following their involvement in a case of match-fixing in 2013.
UEFA, as a standard, grants a one-year exclusion from its competitions to clubs that had been involved in match-fixing the first time they qualified for continental competitions since their case.
After receiving the UEFA decision excluding them from this year’s competition, amrun Spartans general manager Marcel Bonnici said the club were considering taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in an attempt to overturn UEFA’s decision.
