Hailey Bieber is finally addressing the alleged drama between her and Selena Gomez, most of which was generated by public misconception, she says. On Wednesday’s new “Call Her Daddy” episode, host Alex Cooper asked the star point-blank if she’s ever dated hubby Justin Bieber at the same time he was with his famous ex.
“No. Not once,” Hailey said, adding, “When he and I started, like, dating or anything like that, he was never in a relationship. Never, ever. no time. It’s not my character. ruin someone’s relationship. I would never do that. . . . I can say, period, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with someone – this is the end. And I had been involved [with Justin] since I was 18.”
Although neither Cooper nor Hailey actually said Gomez’s name in the episode, the Rare Beauty mogul dated Justin from 2010 to 2013 and again a few years later, rekindling their relationship before finally splitting in March 2018. Similarly, Justin and Hailey also dated on and off for a few years before finally getting married in a courthouse ceremony in September 2018, just months after getting engaged in July. They also had a second wedding ceremony in South Carolina a year later.
“The timeline, too, I think, is sometimes questioned, of us getting together and getting engaged and him having spent time with his ex before that…it’s so crazy, I literally never talked about it …. I get what it looks like from the outside,” Hailey told Cooper. “But it was a situation where I know for a fact it was the right thing for them to close that door, they weren’t in a relationship at the time, but of course there’s a very long story there. -down and it’s not my relationship, it has nothing to do with me, so I respect that a lot, but I know it closed a chapter and I think it was the best thing that could have done him happen to move on, get engaged, get married, and move on with your life that way.”
Hailey said she didn’t want to speak on behalf of Justin or Gomez “because it was their relationship and I honestly respect that very deeply, but I just know what happened when we got back together and I know what needed to happen in order for us to get back together in a healthy way.” She also claimed that she wouldn’t have wanted to marry someone who didn’t have closure with her ex.
The Rhode beauty brand founder also addressed the ongoing “harassment” she experiences from fans who are still hoping for a reunion between Gomez and Justin, despite her marriage to Hailey. “If we’ve moved on, why not you?” … It’s hurtful,” she said. She added during the episode, “I think it’s sad. I think it’s sad to be against someone’s happiness. I think it’s sad not to wish someone good luck. ‘a — who am I supposed to be, that would be acceptable — and that means I’m living for other people, and that means I’m making people happy, which I have a hard time with.” Hailey also claimed that she knows not everyone has to “have to like me” but she hopes for “mutual respect between people, and to me that means you have nothing to say – you don’t have to. don’t have to love me, but you don’t have anything to say either.”
She’s so used to hate, she said, that she spent years feeling compelled to be “meticulous” about everything she said publicly, for fear of backlash. flame.
During the episode, Cooper also asked Hailey about a moment from the Met Gala in 2021 when fans in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art started screaming Gomez’s name when Hailey and Justin hit the carpet. “I heard people screaming, it almost didn’t make me cry,” Hailey said. “I think watching the video afterwards made me say, ‘Damn, that sucks.’ . . . It was disrespectful to me, to my relationship . . . I endured so much disrespect.”
