Greta Thunberg hopes to receive a new headlight for her motorcycle on her 18th birthday today.
The climate activist was asked what her perfect gift would be as she celebrated taking this step.
Speaking to The Sunday Times Magazine, she said she would ideally like “a promise from everyone that they will do whatever they can” for the planet, but when asked for a specific gift, she said: “The headlights on my bike are broken. Sweden is very dark in winter.”
Unlike other teens, she wouldn’t be interested in receiving clothes, insisting that she no longer buys them. The fashion industry is known to be a major polluter.
“I know people who have clothes, so I ask them if I can borrow them or if they have something they don’t need anymore.
“In the worst case scenario, I guess I’ll buy it second hand.”
At just 18 years old, Greta is one of the most famous teenage girls in the world. Through her work she has rubbed shoulders with some of the most famous and powerful people in the world; most recently Leonardo DiCaprio, an ardent environmentalist.
She’s just a celebrity who has been criticized for traveling by plane while speaking out about climate change, but Greta says she “doesn’t care.”
“I don’t tell anyone what to do,” she said, “but there is a risk when you speak out on these things and don’t practice while you preach, then you will be criticized for it and what. that you say will not be taken seriously.
