Greg Shumaker is a talented lawyer and recognized leader “said Mr. Brogan. ” It is a “pure product” Jones Day where he retired from his career as an intern in the summer of 1986. He has the ability, dedication and instinct to lead the Firm and enable it to continue its incredible success. He will be able to seize opportunities while assuming the responsibilities incumbent on the Firm and the legal profession as a whole. »

Greg Shumaker is a born, charismatic leader endowed with an iron will, serving the interests of our clients and the Firm. He will be a great leader and will be able to protect our institution and the approximately 20,000 people who depend on it. Jones Day is happy that Greg Shumaker agreed to become the 8th Managing partner in its history. »

I participated in the recruitment of Greg Shumaker in 1986. At that time already, I had noted exceptional qualities and strength of character that would one day perhaps allow him to lead our firm. This day has arrived. »

Steve Brogan is one of the partners who will have had the greatest impact on the long history of Jones Day said Mr. Shumaker. ” I admired his exceptional leadership skills and charisma when we first met at my law school job interview over 35 years ago. Serving the Cabinet for nearly half a century, he worked tirelessly to transform Jones Day to grow a recognized national law firm, based in the Midwest, into a uniquely integrated global partnership, in which attorneys from all offices work together to provide the highest quality of service to clients. »

Under the direction of Mr. Brogan, Jones Day expanded to 600 lawyers and 18 additional offices, has its presence in Australia, expanded into Latin America and reopened offices in the Middle East. At the same time, the Firm continued to improve the quality of its legal services, becoming the only firm to feature for six consecutive years at the top of the “Client Service A-Team” ranking (survey on the quality of legal services provided by law firms) carried out by BTI Consulting each year.

Mr. Brogan further developed the pro bono commitments of Jones Day. He is at the origin of the implementation of a program dedicated to the defense of asylum seekers who have crossed the southern border of the United States. Since 2014, Jones Day thus manages sites that function as virtual courts along the border and now has a fully operational office in Laredoto Texasstaffed by lawyers and staff from all offices of the Firm who report throughout the year. Jones Day also provided assistance to asylum seekers in the Lesbos refugee camps in Greece. To date, more than 1,000 lawyers, from almost all of the firm’s offices, have participated in these actions, which have provided legal assistance to more than 15,000 people.

Steve Brogan likes to say that it is not people who change great institutions, but great institutions that change people “says Mr. Shumaker. ” This is certainly true in general, but there is no doubt that over the past 20 years, as Managing Partner of Jones Day, Steve Brogan transformed the scope of the firm’s services while diminishing the values and operating principles that make it a unique and successful institution. It is a great honor and a great responsibility to carry on his legacy and continue the firm’s commitment to the profession and to the rule of law around the world. »
