GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Emily Zugay is not a designer. But its design skills – or lack of it – caught the eye of Ellen DeGeneres.
Zugay, a woman from Grand Rapids, redraws famous logos with deadpan humor on TikTok. The popular videos have been viewed 100 million times and have led to an appearance on the daytime talk show “Ellen”.
“Emily, you’re hilarious,” DeGeneres said in the interview that aired Wednesday, October 13.
Zugay went to school for animation and now creates portraits of pets.
“Over time, I learned a bit of lingo from being in reviews. I thought it would be fun to make it look like I knew what I was talking about and pair it with some horrible logos, ”she told DeGeneres.

Big brands like Starbucks, Apple, and the NFL have gotten the Zugay treatment. When McDonalds requested a new logo, it replaced the golden arches with a giant “O” and playful letters that unwittingly spell “McDoalds.”
“Instead of focusing on the M, I focused on the O,” she said in the video with 5 million views. “I thought it would be a really nice campaign to have onion rings paired well with your new logo.”
McDonalds reposted the video for an additional 13 million views.
The iconic NASA logo has been transformed into a comic book in lowercase black letters on a white background.
“I try to take all the beautiful aspects of design and turn them around,” Zugay said.
Even Ellen’s clean logo with its thin white font on a blue background was not spared. The redesign features thick black letters with trailing Ellen’s movement lines because “you look like you can be quick,” Zugay said.
DeGeneres announced that products with the new green logo have been added to the Ellen Store. All proceeds from the T-shirts, mugs and water bottles will go to the America’s Food Fund.
