Along with improving Chrome for Windows, Google is also working on optimizing its browser for the new macOS Big Sur update. The Mountain View-based giant recently introduced a new Chrome icon for Mac for the latest Mac update. However, according to Chrome’s chief designer, the team has been working on a few more macOS Big Sur-themed icons for the browser. So, the team now needs your help in choosing one of the options.
Current Google browser designer Elvin (@ elvin_not_11/ Twitter), recently shared a tweet asking internet users which icon looks worthy enough to become the official for future versions of Chrome running on the Mac. You can check out the tweet and options below.
As many of you have noticed, today we introduced a new Chrome icon for macOS Big Sur ✨ The team also explored other macOS-aligned options (a few examples here), and we’re interested in know what you think 🙏 pic.twitter.com/dUS70OZdCr

So, as you can see, there are three icon options to choose from. Option A looks much flatter than the other two, while Option C was the most popular among Twitter users for its dynamic look and shading textures. Option B falls somewhere in between. However, the larger blue circle in Option C looks a lot sleeker in my personal opinion.
In one of the comments, the designer also mentioned that he recently tried an icon that “Strictly follows Apple’s icon grid”. After the test, they noticed that “The Chrome logo looked too big”. Therefore, they reduced the logo to the current icon they recently released.
We tried a version that strictly follows Apple’s icon grid and noticed the Chrome logo looked too big, so we reduced it to the one we shipped today for visual balance. , but maybe there is room for us to adjust even more 🙂 pic.twitter.com/9VtNN8oNAI

However, according to Elvin, even though the current Chrome for Mac icon is visually balanced, there could be a bit more room for tweaking. So if you are running Chrome on your Mac, be prepared for some icon changes in the days to come.
