Google has issued a warning to all Android and iPhone users about potential security and privacy risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in smartphone apps. Through Google’s Gemini App Privacy Hub blog, the tech giant urged customers to refrain from entering their private information during any conversation about Gemini apps.
Gemini apps are like a supercharged Google Assistant. The blog post stated: “Please do not enter any confidential information in your conversations or any data that you would not want a reviewer to see or for Google to use to improve our products, services, and machine learning technologies. »
Explaining why one should avoid giving out personal information, Google said that once a conversation has been reviewed, it is not deleted for a certain period of time, even after removing Gemini Apps activity.
This is because the conversations are separate and are not connected to any user’s Google account. Additionally, the tech giant informed that conversations, which may include your confidential information, are kept for up to three years.
It states: “Conversations that have been reviewed or annotated by human reviewers (and associated data such as your language, device type, location information, or comments) are not deleted when you delete your Gemini activity Apps, because they are kept separately and are not connected. to your Google account. Instead, they are kept for up to three years.
Continuing further, it revealed that even after Gemini Apps activity is disabled, the user’s conversation will be saved in their account for up to 72 hours.
The blog adds: “Even when Gemini app activity is turned off, your conversations will be saved with your account for up to 72 hours. This allows Google to provide the service and process comments. This activity will not appear in your Gemini Apps activity.
Additionally, Gemini can be activated by voice activation, even when you don’t intend to. The blog clarified: “Gemini can activate when you didn’t expect it, for example, if there is a noise that sounds like ‘Hey Google.’ If this happens and Gemini responds, it will be treated the same as a scheduled activation and according to your settings.
