talkSPORT host Simon Jordan has called on Chris Eubank Jr promoter Kalle Sauerland to pull his man from the fight against Conor Benn on Saturday night.
News broke Wednesday that Benn had tested positive last month for the banned substance clomiphene, which can increase testosterone.
Both teams were briefed on this news for over a week before it was leaked to the press.
During this time, Eubank Jr and his camp consulted a doctor, and the boxer himself decided that he wanted to continue despite everything.
However, once the information was made public, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) announced that they would ban the fight from proceeding as scheduled.
Sauerland and Benn promoter Eddie Hearn is now challenging that and trying to force a U-turn.
As it stands, it’s still unclear whether or not the fight will go ahead on Saturday night.
Sauerland joined White and Jordan on talkSPORT on Thursday and said: “We’re part of something that happened to us.
“It was then passed on to independent experts and then it was submitted to the most important person on our side who was affected by this, and that is obviously Eubank Jr.
“I spoke with Eubank Jr last night and he’s on board. That’s where we are today.
“There’s not much update that I can give you other than the fact that the legal ones go back and forth with the representatives of the board of directors…
“Ultimately, we are acting in the best interests of Eubank Jr.
“So if he says, ‘The fight is moving forward’, we’re trying to move that fight forward.
“We act within the rules.”
Jim White suggested it was really about money, to which Sauerland replied: “It’s a professional sport, so of course there’s money involved.
“At the same time, I would say that for Eubank Jr, there would be a serious case [for damages], and there are plenty of other fights on the table. So yes and no. »
At this point, Jordan cut in and began, “As a promoter, what you’re advocating is a situation where a legal mechanism overcomes a failed drug test.”
Sauerland replied: “We will play everything by the rules.
“Now the question is not money.”
But again Jordan intervened: “But come on Kalle, this is the magnitude of this fight, you know it and I know it.
“I don’t want to put your back against the wall because you’re the only one with the balls to come and answer these questions because Eddie Hearn doesn’t do that…
“You are trying to find a loophole to circumvent the position of the British Boxing Board of Control.”
Sauerland replied, “First of all Simon, I’m not Eddie.
“On our side, we have always done one thing: act in the interest of our athletes.
“You can question that, you can say it’s wrong, but we’re following the book and the letter of the law.”
Jordan added: “It’s one thing for Derek Chisora and David Haye to fight under Luxembourg rules because they didn’t have a license from the British Boxing Board, it’s another to go to Luxembourg. , Liechtenstein or Poland and trying to find a way to circumvent the governmental authority in that country.
“That can’t be true Kalle.”
Sauerland replied: “I hear you Simon, but you have to understand that my position is for Eubank Jr.
“I have to make sure he is fully briefed, I have to make sure we follow the rules, I have to make sure we do everything for our client.”
Sauerland concluded: “Let me make one final comment – I will do everything I can for Chris Eubank Jr, that’s what it comes down to.”
To which Jordan replied, “So get him out of the fight Kalle, get him out of the fight, that’s the right thing to do.”
Sauerland joked in response, “I’ll give you his number.”
