Gary Neville tore up the European Super League’s proposals in an extraordinary rant where he called the plans a ‘criminal act against the fans’.
On Sunday it was reported that Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City have signed up for the breakaway plan, which would see the teams face off in a 36-team league instead of the current system.
The Manchester United icon had previously criticized the plans and demanded that the Premier League greats be deducted points for their entry.
And after United’s 3-1 win over Burnley, Neville launched another passionate attack on the proposals, and even suggested that Burnley be awarded the title due to the ‘greed’ of the Big Six.
“The reaction is it was cursed, and rightly so,” he began. “I’ve been a Manchester United fan for 40 years of my life, but I’m disgusted.
“I am the most disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool. Liverpool, they claim you will never walk alone, this is the people’s club, the fan club.
“Manchester United, 100 years born to workers here and they are parting ways in a league without competition from which they cannot be relegated.
“It’s an absolute shame. Honestly, we need to reclaim the power in this country from the clubs at the top of this league and that includes my club.
“I have been calling for 12 months as a member of an independent regulator to put in place checks and balances to prevent this from happening. It was pure greed. They are impostors.
“The owners of this club, the owners of Liverpool, the owners of Chelsea, the owners of Manchester City. They have nothing to do with football in this country.
“There is 100 years of history in this country of fans who loved these clubs and they need protection, the fans need protection.
“I have benefited enormously from football, I have made money with football, I invest money in a football club. I’m not against money in football, but the principles and ethics of fair competition are part of the game, so if Leicester wins the league, it goes into the Champions League.
“Manchester United is not even in the Champions League. Arsenal are not in the Champions League you watched them earlier today and it was a mess of a football club at the moment.
“Tottenham is not in the Champions League and they want a God-given right?” It’s an absolute joke and the time has come for an independent regulator to prevent these clubs from having a power base. Enough is enough.”

Neville added, “You know what the motivation is, it’s greed. My reaction earlier was not emotional.
“Anchor them dots. Put them at the bottom of the league and take money away from them. You have to stamp on it.
“It’s criminal. It is a criminal act against football fans in this country. Make no mistake, it is the greatest sport in the world, it is the greatest sport in this country and it is a criminal act against the fans that simple.
“Get points, take their money and punish them.
“They are bottle merchants. You never hear from club owners. Absolute bottle merchants. They have no voice and they are probably going to hide in a few weeks and say that it has nothing to do with them and that they were just talking about it.
“In the midst of a pandemic and crisis, football clubs at the National League level almost went bankrupt, leaving players on leave, clubs bordering on League one and two and these are receiving Zoom calls to go their separate ways and create more greed… joke. “
“They have no loyalty to this country and these leagues. Enough is enough. You just hit the nail on the head there. Enough is enough.
“There isn’t a football fan in this country who won’t and shouldn’t be bubbling over listening to this conversation and these announcements.
“Manchester United fans, Roy loves United, Micah loves Manchester City, it’s to deny your own club.
“Seriously? How could you even come and watch a Super League game here when you’ve left 14 Premier League clubs to play against each other?
“You are the dead championship clubs, the dead one and two league clubs. Your National League and your pyramid scheme have disappeared because of six clubs.
“Absolutely embarrassing and it will never happen. Let them separate.
Neville finished, “Punish them right away. If they announce that a letter of intent has been signed, they should be severely punished. Massive fines, massive deductions, take titles away. We do not care? Give Burnley the title, let Fulham stand. Relegate United, Liverpool and Arsenal. To be fair, these clubs are the history of football in this country and the ones that should suffer the most.
“Yes, Chelsea, City, it’s new money in the game, I’m not happy with them either, Tottenham don’t mind.
“Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal should be better informed. The history and tradition that runs through these clubs is enormous. I absolutely appreciate it.
“They leave a lot to be desired right now. Liverpool Football Club… I mean seriously? You go to the streets of Liverpool, I don’t have a very good relationship with them, I don’t like them and they don’t like me, but I always thought they were honest and with integrity and would take care of their people and theirs. Here we go, forget about it.
“If they sign this letter of intent, they’re as bad as the rest.”
