For an actress with 76 film and TV credits to her name, the questions posed to Lori Petty during her Q&A session at Spa-Con 6.0 were varied.
As Petty took the stage, she noticed a contingent of fans dressed in costumes that referenced the 1992 film “A League of Their Own,” in which she played Kit Keller.
“I think there are now three generations of ‘League apart’ kids, like dressed up as Kit and Dottie, and that’s just awesome,” she said. “Just to know, I often tell people, what kind of job do you have when you’re walking down the street and someone (smiles at you)? Well, it’s a nice job to do to make people smile. people. I did this.”
Early in his career, Petty had a solid string of hit movies.
“I had a series of really fun movies, like back to back to back to back to back to back,” she said. “And I kind of thought, ‘Oh, wow, so this is my life now. It’s awesome. … You don’t always get good movies in a row, so I was very lucky.”
While filming “A League of Their Own,” Tom Hanks, who plays the team’s manager, gave her some advice.
“He said, ‘I’m just trying to tell you it’s not always like that,'” she recalled. “He’s like, ‘You’re going to think back to that and say, ‘Wow. Remember when we did that? Because, you know, it’s not always magic.’ And, you know, it was magical, and so it was really, really, really cool.”
Petty remembers being frustrated when she heard that “Tank Girl” had been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America.
“Here’s the thing: they rated this movie R for no reason other than it was a fabulous woman and being fabulous and running s – – -,” she said. “You know? Because there was no nudity in this movie. There’s no violence except like cartoons blowing things up. It’s not bloody.”

She said those involved with the film expected it to be rated PG-13, so teenagers could watch it.
“So people bought ‘Tommy Boy’ tickets and went to ‘Tank Girl,'” she said with a laugh. “‘Tommy Boy’ is a smash hit. … Teenagers couldn’t go to ‘Tank Girl’.”

When asked if she was related to the late Tom Petty, the actress laughed and said no, but told a story about how the late rocker paid for his limo service once. Her accountant called her to ask if he had received any bills from the limo service.
“So he called the limo company, and they said, ‘Oh, his dad paid,’ and he’s like, ‘No, he didn’t,'” she said. “They’re like, ‘Yeah, Tom Petty,’ and my accountant is like, ‘No, that’s not his dad.’ So my stupid accountant sent Tom Petty something like $500.”
Petty recalled that when they were filming “Point Break,” she kissed Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves on the same day. When asked who kisses better, she replied, “It’s like comparing, you know, Cristal champagne and a rocket ride.”
Petty concluded the session with some advice.
“Don’t give up,” she said. “You know what? The only way to lose is if you don’t try and quit. Don’t give up, don’t give up. Don’t give up. Don’t give up. Wake up in the morning. You know your name, you’re not in the hospital, you’re fine. And just say ‘thank God’ and keep moving.”
