Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series earlier this month, and in a controversial move the company ditched the charger and headphones from the retail package. The iPhone 12 box only contains the phone and a Lightning cable, with Apple saying it removed the charger for environmental reasons.
Removing the charger leads to a noticeably slimmer design of the retail box, and Apple used that as an excuse to remove the charger from the packaging. The move prompted Android makers to post misguided social media posts, like the one from Samsung Caribbean below which highlights the fact that Galaxy phones include a charger in the box:
Well, that might not be the case any longer. As spotted by SamMobile, Samsung would get rid of the charger and headphones with the Galaxy S21. It’s not the first time we’ve heard about it either; it was revealed in July that Samsung was considering removing the charger from its flagships.

Samsung is already no longer offering headphones in the box, with US customers buying the Galaxy Note 20 having to ask Samsung if they want the AKG headphones that previously came with the manufacturer’s flagship. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t look like Samsung has finalized the move yet, so there’s still a chance the Galaxy S21 may have a charger in the box.
Even if Samsung fails to do this, it’s quite possible that at least one Android maker will launch a flagship in 2021 without including the charger in the box.
