It started with an argument over a bottle of wine in a country pub and ended more than 20 years later in a multi-million pound settlement.

Geoff Monks, 67, spent time in the same prison as Soham’s killer Ian Huntley suffered a heart attack and had to sell all three of his pubs after being sued for food hygiene violations in what he called it a vendetta.

After authorities admitted Monks had been wrongfully prosecuted, a former head of the council overseeing the prosecution criticized the ‘staggering’ payment, estimated at £ 4million, that Monks was expected to receive.
