The national hobby which is inexplicably interested in Pete Davidson’s love life had another lookie-loo jolt of energy last night Tonight’s show. That’s where Davidson sat beaming as Miley Cyrus carried her performance of Yvonne Fair’s “It Should Have Been Me” right into Davidson’s lap. After talking to his boyfriend and Miley’s New Year’s Eve co-hosts Davidson directly, saying, “Pete Davidson, this song is for you. When I saw those pictures, that’s what I played,” the singer turned her impressive and engaging performance of the anthem of lost love into a direct appeal to Pete. Here we go !

Cyrus and Davidson, who were slated to host the Lorne Michaels-produced NBC New Year’s Eve special on New Year’s Eve (duh), had previously told Fallon about their long and storied friendship, matching tattoos and all. Okay, so Davidson, as part of his ongoing campaign to clean up his heavily inked body more or less clean of some 40 famous tattoos covering his pasty flesh, is having his wrist tattoo “We babies” removed, while Cyrus still proudly sports his forever slogan on one ankle. (The tattoos were from a music video sketch on the Larry Davidson SNL episode on which Cyrus was a guest back in 2017. “I quit smoking weed the next day,” Cyrus joked.)

Still, the two seem undeniably close, with them showing off the prom-style photos they took in preparation for the New Year’s Eve party in Miami, where Cyrus promised “He’ll be funny and I’ll be naked.” Breaking away from the duo’s tandem encounter with Fallon, Cyrus then joined The Roots to sing a sultry version of “It Should Have Been Me.” (Written by Norman Whitfield and Mickey Stevenson and covered several timesbut Cyrus’ arrangement clearly copies the strings and synths of the late 70s Fair version.)

Insertion of a word on how he should, indeed, have been his drive away from “that nice restaurant” in this Lamborghini, Cyrus belted his musical lament right into Davidson’s smiling kiss, draping a long leg over his lap for good measure. Davidson SEO possibly current relationship with the recent Saturday Night Live host and another slavery media coverage figure, Kim Kardashian, Cyrus repeatedly turned her performance into a playful broken heart charge. (“The week of our special?” Cyrus exploded in mock outrage at one point,”What the fuck is this? »)

As for whether the two friends have ever been/are an item (“I’m going to watch a movie on Staten Island!” Cyrus lamented at thee blushing Davidson), only time and the inevitable and utterly unnecessary media speculation surrounding the ridiculously well-told romantic life of Pete Davidson will tell. Hey, wait a minute.
