McDonald’s has created a new gourmet vacation for its McMuffin egg and will be celebrating with free breakfast sandwiches.
Almost 50 years after the sandwich began in 1971, McDonald’s is celebrating its very first national Egg McMuffin Day on Monday, March 2. The day by coincidence – or perhaps on purpose – is when Wendy’s breakfast menu is launched nationwide.
To get Egg McMuffin for free between 6 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. local time on Monday, you need to download the McDonald’s mobile app and create an account. No purchase is necessary to obtain the gift at participating stores.
But McDonald’s isn’t the only one offering free breakfast sandwiches.
Wendy’s has several breakfast coupons on its app, including one for a free honey butter chicken cookie with a purchase, which, according to the fine print, cannot be used with a combo or other offer. Coupon expiration dates may vary.

Fast food rivals have frequently launched food wars and Wendy’s pushed McDonald’s in early February when the national launch was announced on March 2.
Many Wendy’s restaurants have started serving breakfast before Monday as part of a smooth launch. The menu includes Baconator Breakfast, Frosty-ccino and Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
Wendy’s app also had coupons for a small $ 1 Frosty-ccino, $ 2 off any breakfast or a premium combo, and buy a B’fast croissant to get one for $ 1.
The restaurant’s breakfast hours are from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., although the times vary for ordering at the restaurant compared to driving service.

This is not the first time that Wendy’s has tried a national breakfast menu.
In the mid-1980s, the chain’s morning menu included omelets, French toast and grilled sandwiches. But because the items took too long to make, the breakfast menu was interrupted, although there have been small tests across the country for several years.
