Eintracht Frankfurt missed its chance to return to the Bundesliga top four by drawing 1-1 with Mainz at Deutsche Park Bank on Sunday.
Mainz opened the scoring thanks to Karim Onisiwo after 11 minutes and kept the lead until the 86th minute when second-half substitute Ajdin Hrustic equalized for the home side.
With just two league games to go this season, the fate of the Champions League in Frankfurt is no longer in their hands, with Adi Hütter’s troops in fifth place, one point behind Borussia Dortmund in fourth place.
For 12th-placed Mainz, the draw means they can no longer be directly relegated from the Bundesliga this season.
