“I try to see it from the perspective of a regular fight, where there’s no contract at stake at the end,” Marshall said. “I’m going there, treating it like another fight, and if they give me a contract then great, but if not then I’ll fight and I’m sure I’ll be back there.”
Given the structure of the Contender series, many fighters go out there and deviate from their usual style in hopes that a little more flash and excitement is what pushes them over the edge.
However, Marshall plans to stay the course and use his powerful grappling and ground and pound signature to secure himself a UFC contract.
“Obviously it would be nice to go out there and show that I can box,” Marshall said. “But, at the end of the day, it’s about winning and finishing the way that works best. I feel like as long as it’s a quality finish people will be excited .
For those unfamiliar with Marshall, he best compares his fight to that of Colby Covington, a rare high-pressure style that, if executed correctly, can be more than effective inside the UFC.
“I can see a bit of a comparison to Colby Covington just because of the wrestling and the ability to hold guys down,” Marshall said. “I still have good punches and good boxing, but I’m just able to dominate them in the wrestling aspect and finish them there or put on a dominant decision performance.”
